The ‘Tree of Light’ is one of the most spectacular and memorable arts projects ever to come to the Thames Valley. A community celebration of the life and importance of trees.
One of the major national projects being supported by Legacy Trust UK, it offers communities and schools their own chance to get involved and celebrate the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
The two year project brings together 40 diverse community groups from around Oxford, Reading, Henley and Windsor, leading to large-scale celebrations involving over 1200 performers.
The very best in artistic, scientific and environmental talent and know-how has been employed to work alongside the community groups, to inspire and educate whilst developing the performances.
The ‘Tree of Light’ will be a monumental, sculptured work of art created by Block9. Powered by the energy of humans, using Electric Pedals’ adapted bicycles and rowing apparatus, the tree will create a blaze of light.
The ‘Tree of Light’ will be the centre-piece of five stunning public spectacles taking place in Windsor, Oxford, Reading and a finale at Stonor Park, Oxfordshire.
The creative team includes Stewart Collins, artistic director of Henley Festival, the innovative high tech theatrical design duo Block9, leading Composer Orlando Gough and director/choreographer Charlie Morrissey.
The ‘Tree of Light’ project will be delivered by Thames Arts, a newly formed consortium that comprises the CIAO! Festival, Henley Festival, Oxford Inspires and Windsor Festival.
